“ I always believe in another world I can fly, so in this world, I dance.”
When I dance, I am in a wonderland. Suddenly I have the magic to write my own inspirational story no matter ups or downs.
Sometimes my academic life is frustrating: no good ideas to work on, papers keep getting rejected, no hope to find a job etc; dance stimulate the passion in my heart. The momentum I created in dance makes me feel that I could always lead my body and my mind to the light.
Sometimes, I got lost in success. Dance finds my true love back, the moment of struggling for my dream. So I can be on the road again.
Dance break the obstacles of communication and creates the intimate moments that we could share our feelings and understanding with friends and even strangers from different places and ethnics. I could never forget those touching seconds that our hearts are so close together.

“The dance is over, the applause subsided, but the joy and feeling will stay with you forever.”
Although I'm pursuing a career in engineering, I would love to live a life with dance and music surrounding me. I played the flute and the piano in band during high school, and I performed as a soloist with the Quincy Symphony Orchestra in 2014. I studied traditional Chinese dance at a young age and have performed in various school events throughout grade school and high school. I believe that confidence is the most important factor in dancing.
Dance Illumination has given me wonderful opportunities to learn from a group of dancers with amazing talents. It is a great club to develop leadership skills and make life-long friends! Never have I regretted walking to its welcome booth during a CelebrAsion event three years ago. Starting with little experience, I learned and performed traditional Chinese dance, Shinjiang, jazz, contemporary dances. My talent and passion for dance both grew during my time with this group of talented and unique individuals!

“Dancing is not for being the center of the stage, but making you confident to stand on the stage.”
Dance came to my life when I was a freshman in China. Before that, I didn't get any hint that my life would be associated with dancing. However, a Chinese Inner Mongolian dance completely illuminated my life of dance and guided me to the dancing group in my college. Not receiving any formal dance training from childhood is actually a fortune for me because my body is not limited by any dancing style so that I'm open to any style I like. I've tried Chinese traditional dance, some folk styles from Inner Mongolian, Xinjiang, Tibet and Korean, and some Western styles like Broadway jazz and hiphop. Such fusion from Eastern and Western styles is able to continuously provide me a flow of inspiration. I have no idea about my future career, what I'm sure is that I'll keep dancing no matter what my job is and where I am in the future.

"Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass, it's about learning to dance in the rain."
I have a strong passion for Chinese traditional culture. This organization provides me a great opportunity to experience Chinese culture and make friends. The initial purpose of establishing this organization is to provide a fair and friendly environment for those students who share the same interest in dancing and help them to learn different cultures as well. I didn’t have much skill in dancing, but with the help of experienced student dancers and well organized dancing practice, I’m becoming good at it. At the same time, I also made some great friends.
I hope in the future we would have more opportunities to collaborate with other student organizations. Our organization is developing rapidly and we want to grab every opportunity to promote Chinese culture and to learn from other cultures as.
Dance can make everybody beautiful and we welcome you to join us.

It's like catching lightning, the chances of finding something.
It's one in a million, the chances of feeling someone.
And with every step together
We just keep on getting better
Hi, this is Ran Kang, studying in art education and administration. I studied dance when I was a little girl and dance the ballet for almost ten years. Dance as for me, is a kind of joyful way to express my inner felling. I hope I can transfer precisely my deep feeling to the ones who understand me through my dancing language.

Dance is the language I use to talk to myself. Those magic body movements that driven by some inner power of myself, in turn, keeps telling me to make peace with my imperfection and to appreciate my beauty.
I’m a PhD student studying cognitive psychology at the Ohio State University. I’m fascinated by the inner mechanism underlying human visual perception. I have spent a lot of time and will spend more time in figuring out whether we see the world as it is, why and how, scientifically. Nevertheless, I’m also quit sensitive and care a lot about the feeling, the pure psychological state without any logical reasoning. I’m proud of my sensitivity although it sometimes conflicts with my scientific side.

Education:
Literature for Children and Young Adults, the second year.
Dance Experience: Dance since 3. Take systematic training from 7.
Why I dance: I always believe that dancing is an efficient way of expressing my emotions. One day I talked with my younger cousin back in China: what have you learned in your dancing class? Can you show it? She answered, “ I forget the moves”. I told her that “forget the moves and just move your body when you feel good”. She finally made it. That’s how I see dancing. I dance happily when I am happy. I dance to sorrowful music when I am low-spirited. Dancing is just a form of communication. Dancing is to girls what ball game is to boys. We dance, meet people and make friends. We dance together, experiencing team-building and have fun together!
In last spring festival period, we performed a lot. We performed at three different places one day. We drove around Columbus, and helped each other with performance make up and costumes. When we called it a day, we realized we spent the all day long together like a family. You can imagine the sense of belonging when you do things together in a family.

Dance experience: I have learned dancing at a local dance workshop for almost 7 years from the primary school to the middle school time in China. I participated several National Young Latin dancer competition when I was at the primary school. I love dancing but my mother thought the dancing time should be replaced by study. So I gave up learning dance and put more time to my study. But now, I have joined in the Dance of the Soul from China. I love Chinese traditional dance and this club is really best suitable for me. Then I go to the workshop every week to learn special Chinese dance. Also, I have participated a performance with the team members last month.
I am extremely infatuated with Chinese culture especially Hanfu which are the special traditional costumes for Han ethnic and Chinese archaic music played by bamboo flute, Guzheng and many other Chinese classical instruments. Also, dance is one of my hobbies from childhood. I can combine these all in this club: the Dance of the Soul from China. I love dancing but my essential technique of dance is not very good since dance is my hobby but not my major. The dance workshop of the Dance of the Soul helps me learn more about Chinese traditional dance and give me a good chance to find new friends have the same interests. In addition, the club gives us many good performance chances to stand at the stage to present our beautiful Chinese dance.

Actually, I started to preform on the stage as a little dancer since I was in kindergarten. At that time, my mother discovered my passion and talent about dancing. Then, I started to learn dancing when I was seven years old and got several years’ professional training about many kinds of dancing, such as Classic Dance, Jazz, and even Latin Dance. Even though I am not dance major, I still want to continue dancing today instead of giving it up. The reason is really simple: I love dancing. It can bring a lot of happiness to my life. I enjoy the process of dancing, and I am really happy dancing with a group of like-minded friends in the Dance of Soul. At the time we dance, we also can make more friends, develop both dancing and leadership skills and make progress together. It is a wonderful and unique experience for me in the Dance of Soul.

Dancing Experience: I have been dancing since I was a little girl in kindergarten, have kept dancing as a hobby and also taught Korean hip-hop dancing this semester with the song “ Mr. Taxi”.
I think every girl is pretty. And I always believe that within each girl’s body, there’s a very confident and sexy girl. It just needs some time and efforts to explore her, accept her and embrace her. I want every girl to admire and appreciate her body. Dancing is not only a good way to keep fit, but also a great way to be elegant, become confident and stay passionate. I want every girl to put on a big smile on the stage and feel proud of herself. As our slogan states, dancing like you are a queen. Dancing like nobody is watching. Let’s dance, girls!

Education
Bachelor of Economics from Peking University of China
Master of Business Logistics Engineering from Ohio State University
I have been training in Chinese traditional dancing for 4 years, ballroom for one year and Argentine Tango for one year. Performances on city and university stages.
Dance is a way I communicate and get along with myself. My love starts when I was in kindergarten, when my family want me to do piano or painting, but that was the first time I felt clear about what I want. The compromise is I agree to do both dancing and painting, but it proves that only what you truly love can last forever. I grow up as an introversive person and a lot of time I feel tired after going back home. But dancing, especially the free dancing I do to myself, with whatever music I come across, allow me to release the energy inside me and help me regain my confidence and peace. This is how I establish a tiny kingdom of my own. It is not about appearance, publicity or showing, it is all about who we are.

Enjoy the moment when you dance. Express your elegance, beauty, sexiness, happiness, sadness, anger, hesitation, hurt, or stress. Because when you dance, it's the moment that you can truly be yourself and freely expresses your heart.
I came to dance for a very simple and straightforward reason: I want to exercise. Because it's hard to push myself into the gym for even 5 minutes, I chose to dance instead, and it turned out to be great danxercise. What is great about joining a dance team or community is that it's far more than the dancing itself. You will get to feel a sense of belonging to the family. You dance with the team, you celebrate with the team, you laugh with the team, make fun of members, and help each other in personal lives. More importantly, you will always carry the legacy and friendship with you, for the rest of your life.
