Annual Event-Multicultural Carnival for Dance Music and Drama: Traditional and Model China
We successfully held our first multi-culture carnival April 11th, 2014. Our second multi-culture carnival will be held on Marth 6th, 2015 in US Banker Theater, Ohio Union.
There will be performances, Photo-taking with models in costumes from different cultures, games, line dance, logo wall and marketing videos for participating organizations. We have target organizations from different cultures each year. We market marketing videos for participating organizations, have collaboration dance workshop with them and end up with mix-culture choreography to show in this event. A lot of workshops before this final party will be held to help them perfect the performance, which could make our event educational and acceptable by students from different cultures. Especially, this year, we collaborated with American step dance team and at OSU in both dance choreography and culture exchange.
In the event, participants can take pictures with the models in costumes from different cultures, which is an efficient and attractive way for people to learn and understand cultural diversity. For Example, our costumes from different minorities and dynasties of China will help people to understand cultural diversities, when the truth that Chinese culture consists of cultures of 56 minorities and lots of dynasties is neglected by most people.
Furthermore, this is also a celebration party for our series events “Traditional and Modern China.” We plan to promote a city and a minority in China each year and our theme is City of Beijing and Dai Ethnics for 2014 and City of Shanghai and Shinjiang Ethnics for 2015. For example, in 2015, there will be a culture promotion video, Chinese music and dance performance including Yue Opera, Shanghai style rock, Shinjiang dance and drum. Moreover, every participant will receive a flyer about Shanghai and Shinjiang Ethnic culture introduction and compete to win prizes by answering questions according to the flyer at the game break of the event. All the Chinese culture promotion parts are education-oriented with a lot of fun.
